Burkhardt & Tree Court - University of Manchester

The kitchen replacement scheme, spread over two separate campuses incorporated considerable refurbishment works throughout each building.

Tree Court's works involved the removal of existing tea room facilities within the residential building and the reconfiguration of mechanical and electrical services throughout to enable the installation of new kitchen units and worktops supplied to Armitage from the University's preferred kitchen manufacturer. Burkhardt building required a greater degree of works owing to the existing structural configuration of the building and the size and scope of the works required. 16 new kitchens were installed across 4 floors of the building along with the complete propping of the roof level plant room and new construction of ground floor foundations. Following an on-site survey of the existing electrical containment and mains distribution it was decided to redesign these works and incorporate new distribution throughout the building. All of these works were required to be completed in the same restricted programme period owing to the impending return of students for the autumn semester. Works were carefully coordinated with all trades and a sequential approach to each kitchen undertaken to work out of the building. The resulting standard of finish in the completed kitchens was extremely well received by the University estates and residential facilities teams.
