Due to the location of the new extension the play area was relocated and work commenced to form the new footprint and foundations, followed by the erection of the new steel framework. Temporary steelwork supports were fabricated into the structure to enable the steel framework to be completed in one visit. To reduce the necessity of working at heights and minimising the associated risks of the operation, the decision was made to construct the steel roof structure on the ground and then lift into place using a crane.
Once the superstructure steel frame was constructed, work commenced on the substructure brickwork, this was followed by the formation and pouring of the new ground floor slab. The new extension was constructed with brick / blocks and finished off with render and feature stone cills to match the existing school structure. At the rear of the extension an external fixed canopy with a roller shutter entrance was constructed which forms part of the new external play area.
The existing building is predominantly single storey and is over 100 years old. The materials used on the new extension are in keeping and blend sympathetically with the original school and previous extensions for the purpose of visual amenity.
We have considerable experience of working within the Education sector. The projects we have previously completed range from classroom extensions to general refurbishment of School buildings.
