Their headquarters on Oldham Road were in need of a significant update in order to meet the needs and future aspirations of the Mustard Tree. The ‘Big Rebuild’ project at the charity’s current headquarters within the Ancoats conservation area comprised of the reconfiguration, full strip out and refurbishment of the existing building.
A new double height entrance foyer has been formed off Bengal Street which involved considerable structural alterations. This now provides access to the shop, café and meeting rooms on the ground floor, and exhibition and performance space, breakout space and training rooms on the first floor.
A complete internal refurbishment and overhaul of the Mechanical and Electrical installations throughout has created various usable spaces and has improved the ground floor shop and loading bay areas.
The building has been transformed into a vibrant, welcoming place following the installation of two self-supporting Vitral rooflights and four hipped roof windows as well as Kawneer aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling systems. A new roof build-up with a sika-trocal roofing systems has also been installed to the whole roof area and the brickwork parapets to the underside of the copings.
