Stockport, Friends’ Meeting House (Quakers) is situated on the corner of Lower Hillgate road. The project comprised the demolition of the existing Meeting House and the reconstruction of a new Meeting House. The building now boasts 2 let-able meeting rooms, 1 friends meeting room and associated lobby, bathrooms, kitchen, plant rooms and additional car parking.
The building has been orientated to face Longshut Lane to provide a strong street frontage and the front hedge has been removed in parts to ensure high levels of visibility. Thinning out of the dominant trees have ensured maximum solar gain to the solar panels and has allowed a more varied mix of planting to the gardens.
The project was subject to particularly onerous SBEM calculations to achieve high levels of energy efficiency and air tightness. In order to achieve these standards a heat recovery system was introduced, along with 500mm of loft insulation to ensure a heat loss u-value calculation of 0.09 is achieved for the roof construction. High specification double glazed Velfac windows have been incorporated in the construction to minimise any heat loss or gains once in occupation.
"On behalf of Friends in Stockport Meeting, I would like to thank you for all the work you have done on our behalf. The new Meeting House could never have been constructed so quickly and efficiently without you."
